Book to Film Adaptions That Suck

Book to Film adaptions that I was not happy with:

The Hunger Games: I was pissed (still am!) that they left out the whole backstory to the Mockingjay pendant. Seems like that is the most important aspect to the story.

The Hobbit: I was very confused after seeing the first film when they added the “white orc” vendetta into it. It seemed completely random and like they only used it to make the films longer so that they could make three instead of one. Now, however, after watching the second film I really like how they are tying all of Tolkien’s Middle Earth pieces together. It looks like The Hobbit film franchise is going to be used to tie in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillian. I am quite intrigued and can’t wait to see the last film!

The Twilight Saga: Kirsten Stewart. Horrible acting, need I say more?

Game of Thrones: A Song of Fire and Ice: I must say, that the first season followed the first book to a T. The rest of the seasons… Rubbish! Why did they decide to change up everything??? They didn’t need to! Ugh.

City of Bones: This movie may have been the biggest disappointment. Way to cheesy, bad acting, and too many things left out and too many spoilers given away. The worst part was the acting. Especially because Lily Collins and Jonathon Rhys Meyers could have both done WAY better. It almost seemed like they both knew the movie was crap and didn’t care that their acting was just as sucky. I was appalled after watching it. I remember sitting in the movie theater while the credits were rolling and trying as hard as I could to come up with something positive about the movie. They really shouldn’t even do another one in my opinion.

Eragon: The film followed was obviously low-budget and the writer’s were not worried about following the book very closely. Where was Paolini through all of this? Did he not have any say? I had really hoped that someone else would have bought rights by now to make a second one and to completely re-vamp the entire film. Or someone could pull a Spiderman and completely start from scratch and remake the first one. I would love to see a better version. That whole series is a masterpiece.
